Visit of Pavlo Korobchuk to Denmark – February 2023:
The 24th of February 2022 was the day, when russia illegally invaded Ukraine. One year after this awful event the Cultural Association WoWiWo (WorldWideWords) in Roskilde, with the support of the Wisti Foundation and in collaboration with the Danish Foreign Policy Society, Danish PEN, the National Museum of Denmark and Roskilde Festival High School, invited the 38 year-old Ukrainian poet and writer Pavlo Korobchuk to visit Denmark from the 19th-25th February 2023 – to mark this illegal invasion. Pavlo Korobchuk participated in the debate arrangement “The New Iron Curtain” at Denmarks National Museum on 21st February 2023 where he was in conversation with Charlotte Flindt Petersen from the Danish Foreign Policy Society. He also read his poems, from the augmented reality poetry book “Ukraine. War Words”, to an audience of over 500. Peter Campbell Bensted, artistic director for WoWiWo, read the poems in his English translation.
Pavlo was also, whilst he was in Denmark, invited to Roskilde Festival High School and Danish Pen, to the opening of the Ukraine House on the 24th February, on the actual one-year day for the russian invasion of Ukraine, as well as reading at the Conference “After One Year of War in Ukraine”, held in the Danish Parliament on the 25th February. Pavlo did an immense amount of work in the few days he was here, making a powerful personal and artistic contribution to a greater understanding in Denmark of the horror of the war in Ukraine. Pavlo’s intensely human and absolutely personal poetry speaks of the absolute need for our universal abhorrence of war - and warmongers - and of the great work we all must continue to do the bring peace to Ukraine - and to the world!
The Cultural Association WoWiWo (WorldWideWords) in Roskilde would like to thank the
Wisti Foundation for their important support to the visit of Pavlo Korobchuk.
Pavlo is a member of Ukrainian PEN, and as well as being a poet, novelist, musician and journalist, plays drums and writes electronic music. He is the recipient of several literary awards, and is the winner of more than ten literary contests and twenty literary slams. He lives in Kyiv.
